Piece 52 (2008)

Well, it's here at last... Piece 52!  This piece represents week 52 of the calendar year, and the last of the 2008 collection. The expansive horizon and vibrant sunrise symbolize a new year full of possibilities. 

So, what happens next? 

We start all over again!  The new year will bring 52 weeks of new artwork by yours truly... and don't forget to suggest a theme if you have an interesting idea for one of the months.

Piece 50 (2008)

This week I've chosen to do a landscape shot, with two horses grazing in the distance.  The colors favor a realistic world with blue sky and green grass, but the terrain is somewhat unrealistic with strange foliage, distorted clouds, and mysterious mountains.

I did a similar painting earlier this year, called "Lone Cow on Hana Ranch".  While "Lone Cow" and "Piece 50" share a familiar pasture, the feeling evoked is very different.  "Lone Cow" depicts a white cow grazing in solitude, as if he's the only soul left in the world.  "Piece 50" portrays two horses roaming the field together, content and happy in their peaceful paradise.

Everyone has their days of solitude and their days of companionship.

Piece 49 (2008)

In a land far, far, away...

This week's piece depicts a whimsical horse under a starry sky in an other-worldly landscape.  I utilized a darker color palette than usual, playing with blues, purples, and greens.  The painting has the movement in the grass and clouds that I love, as well as my signature dancing palm trees.  The pose was inspired from a photograph I took of a horse grazing in our back yard in Hana, Maui... she stared at me curiously as I snapped away!  I hope she's happy with her portrait...
