Sunset, Sunrise

This is the 52nd piece in the cycle, and the one year anniversary of when I started 52 Pieces is right around the corner!  For a recap of all images to date, check out the archives, and stay tuned for a special blog post dedicated to the one year milestone.

I chose to paint a solo palm tree to symbolize one year, and the mysterious sky can be either dusk or dawn.  The sunset signals the end of one year, and the sunrise invites a new one.... full of color, light, and inspiration!

Moonlit Palms

This week's piece, "Moonlit Palms" was a lot of fun for me to create because I worked on a hot streak.  In other words, I was on a roll... inspired.  And actually, the title is perfect because the majority of hours I spent working on the piece were in the wee hours of the night, under the light of the moon.

Just the Two of Us

Have you ever had a moment where you can't spell the simplest of words?  You keep sounding it out slowly and it still seems wrong?  That happened to me today with, I'm embarrassed to say, the word "two".  T-W-O, T-W-O.  It's so weird!  What's with the "w"?  You have to admit, it's a little strange...

But enough of that, let me tell you about this week's piece.  I wanted to get a different vantage point, and decided on looking up at the sky-high palms from the ground.  I played around with a solo tree, a group of three, and finally decided on two.  The trees seem almost personified, like a lovely couple up in the heavens, just the t-w-o of them.

Through the Palms

Well, I'm putting the collage materials away for now, and opening up my box of oils again.  A new month means a new theme, and for June I've chosen palm trees.  I've always liked to experiment with palms in my island pieces-- trying different sizes, unusual colors, windy fronds, calm palms, or fun dancing trees.  In the past, I would dot my landscapes with exotic wispy palms, but never focused solely on the tree as my subject... until now.

A peaceful beach peeks through a gathering of vibrant trunks in this week's piece, "Through the Palms".
