The exotic Bird of Paradise is a favorite addition to many Hawaiian floral arrangements. Vibrant orange, red, and blue-purple plumes decorate the crown of this exquisite "bird". A signature pointed beak adds to the odd beauty of this tropical classic.
This week's collage was inspired by a Bird of Paradise textile design I created in college. During my years studying textile design at FIT in Manhattan, I often infused a Hawaiian flair in my projects. There was something wonderful (and comical) about painting my colorful Hawaiian designs in a gray NYC building, so far from the islands. Now years later, the Bird of Paradise textile created in my little dorm room has sparked the idea for this week's piece of paradise.

P.S. Happy Mother's Day! My Mom has always supported & encouraged
me in all aspects of life, and I'm a full-time artist today due largely
to her unwavering belief in me. Thanks Mama...
