In a land far, far, away...
This week's piece depicts a whimsical horse under a starry sky in an other-worldly landscape. I utilized a darker color palette than usual, playing with blues, purples, and greens. The painting has the movement in the grass and clouds that I love, as well as my signature dancing palm trees. The pose was inspired from a photograph I took of a horse grazing in our back yard in Hana, Maui... she stared at me curiously as I snapped away! I hope she's happy with her portrait...
"Piece 49" by Renee Coates. Oil on canvas, 6" x 6".

I was just in Hana - and happened upon the art gallery AND the local Christmas festival. I bought one of your prints "Road to Hana" at the art gallery and then the fabulous pineapple card and some magnets at the Christmas festival.
Your art is fantastic. I surround myself in art and prefer my art to remind me of all the amazing places I've been - and your art certainly will always remind me of Maui! I am going to your website to see about glycees of the Road to Hana. Thank you !!!
